ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of botulinum toxin A injection therapy with ultrasound-guided for benign masseter hypertrophy. Methods:Twenty cases (40 sides) of masseter hypertrophy were injected with botulinum toxin A, among which 10 cases were taken as experimental group and the other 10 cases as control group. The experimental group had preoperative ultrasound examination to measure the thickness of masseter, and use ultrasound-guided precise injection during the operation, and then ultrasound recheck to measure the postoperative masseter thickness; The other 10 cases of control group adopt traditional 3-point injection method. Results:The masseter thickness of the two groups at different period of times after treatment was decreased ( P<0.001), the most obviously decrease happened 4-12 weeks after injection. The mean reduction was 26.8% at 4 weeks and 28.4% at 12 weeks after injection. Masseter muscle thickness recovered by 22% at 24 weeks and by 20% at 36 weeks. The average follow-up was 6.0±2.4 months with no serious complications occurred. In the control group, there was a partial masseter bulge in one case. The satisfactory rate of the patients in the experimental group was higher than that of the control group. Conclusions:Botulinum toxin A injection therapy with ultrasound-guided for benign masseter hypertrophy is an effective treatment, which is more accurate and effective than the traditional injection method.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression of Notch receptors and its relationship with clinicopathological features and prognosis in gastric cancer tissues. Methods Immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression levels of Notch1, Notch2, Notch3 and Notch4 corresponding receptors in 45 patients with gastric cancer from January 2014 to May 2015 in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The correlation between expression levels of Notch receptors and lymph node metastasis, TNM staging, disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed. Results Notch1, Notch2, Notch3 and Notch4 corresponding receptors were mainly distributed in the cytoplasm, and the positive expression rates in gastric cancer tissues were 93.3% (42/45), 86.7% (39/45), 80.0% (36/45), and 77.8% (35/45), which were higher than those in adjacent tissues [31.1% (14/45), 24.4%(11/45), 40.0% (18/45), and 46.7% (21/45)], and the differences were statistically significant (all P< 0.05). There was no correlation between the expression of Notch1, Notch2, Notch3 and Notch4 corresponding receptors and lymph node metastasis, TNM staging, DFS and OS in gastric cancer tissues (all P> 0.05). Conclusion Notch receptors are highly expressed in gastric cancer tissues, and have no correlation with lymph node metastasis, TNM staging, DFS and OS of patients after surgery.

ABSTRACT

Ballistocardiogram (BCG) and electrocardiogram (ECG) can realize the detection of cardiac function from mechanical and electrical dimensions respectively. By extracting the corresponding characteristic parameters of the two signals and carrying out joint analysis, an important cardiac physiological index such as cardiac contractility, can be reflected. To overcome the shortcomings of complication and heaviness of the existing acquisition equipment, a wearable BCG-ECG signal acquisition system is designed in this paper, which realizes BCG signal acquisition based on accelerometer and ECG signal acquisition based on conductive rubber electrodes. The signals of 6 healthy persons were collected, and BCG signals collected by piezoelectric films were used as reference signals. The waveform characteristics of signals were compared, and the difference of cardiac cycle acquisition was analyzed. The waveform characteristics of the two signals acquired by the device were consistent with the standard signals, and there was no significant difference in the acquisition of the cardiac cycle between the proposed method and the traditional method. The results show that the system can accurately collect human BCG signals and ECG signals. The system provides a basis for subsequent research on BCG signal formation mechanism and health applications.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the protective effects of Erqi Decoction(EQD; mainly composed of Radix Aristolochiae Kaempferi, Radix Rhizoma Seu Flos Cypripedii, Cortex Fraxini, Cortex Phellodendri, Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) on the intestinal tract in rats with acute radiation intestinal injury and its mechanism. Methods Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group, EQD group and Baitouweng Decoction group (BD group), 15 rats in each group. The acute radiation enteritis model was established by exposing the whole abdomen to a total dose of 10 Gy of 6 MV higher-energy X-rays. EQD group and BD group were given intragastrical administration with corresponding medicine of EQD at the dose of 8.85 g·kg-1·d-1, BD at the dose of 4.69 g·kg-1·d-1 respectively, and the normal group and the model group were given intragastrical administration with the same volume of normal saline. The treatment lasted for 7 continuous days. After modeling, the morphological change of the proximal ileum tissue was observed under light microscope. Villus height, crypt depth, and thickness of the ileal mucosa and entire wall were measured by image analysis system. The myeloperoxidase (MPO) content in ileum tissue was determined by spectrophotometer, and the expression levels of caspase -3 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in ileum tissue were determined by immunohistochemistry. Results EQD group and BD group had milder injuries of the ileal structure, and had higher villus height, crypt depth, and thickness of mucosa and entire wall than those in the model group (P 0.05). MPO content in EQD group and BD group was decreased(P0.05). Conclusion EQD has certain protective effects against radiation-induced intestinal damage, which mechanism is probably associated with relieving the local intestinal inflammatory reaction, accelerating intestinal epithelial cell proliferation, and inhibiting intestinal epithelial cell apoptosis.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo probe the possibility of functional sensory endings regeneration after end-to-side neurorrhaphy. MethodsFifteen New Zealand rabbits were used in this study. The left greater auricular nerve served as the donor nerve. A nerve graft taken from the right ear served as the receptive nerve which anastomosed to the donor nerve with the other end implanting into the denervated skin flap. Normal skin and denervated skin flap without nerve implantation served as control groups 5 animals in each group. The single nerve fibre recording technique was used to investigate the number, distribution and types of regenerated discharging nerve fibers 4 months after operation. ResultsThe inductive discharges of nerve fibres wave observed in all types of regenerated sensory nerves ,the total discharging fibers was about 58% of that in normal skin. Few discharging fibers were observed in denervated skin flap without nerve implantation. Conclusion End-to-ide neurorrhaphy can regenerate functional axons.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the promoting effect by bFGF on nerve regeneration following acellular allogeneic nerve grafting, and the effects of various concentration of bFGF on axon growth. Methods The animals were divided into 1 000U/ml, 500U/ml, 250U/ml,100U/ml and normal saline groups. Immunohistochemistry staining of neurofilament-160 and S-100 was used to show the length of axonal growth and Schwann cell infiltration 10 days after the surgery. Results The average distance of regenerated nerve fibers in the high dose groups (1 000U/ml and 500U/ml) was longer than that in the normal saline control group;but there was no difference between the low dose groups (250U/ml and 100U/ml) and the control group. Conclusion Early use of bFGF when acellular allogeneic nerve grafted to bridge peripheral nerve defect may obviously promote axon growth speed.
